Graduate Student Checklist:  What You Must Do To Participate

  • Review your eligibility:  Consistent with University of Illinois policy, the College of ACES expects graduates to participate in the Convocation Ceremony for the term in which they are officially graduating.  If you are not officially graduating this semester but want to participate in the upcoming Convocation, please complete the Petition for ACES Convocation Participation.  On the petition, you must list your rationale for why an exception should be made on your behalf.  Petitions will be approved for extreme circumstances and will be based on your explanation.  The deadline to submit a petition to Suite 115 ACES Library is Thursday, April 20, 2017 by 4:30 pm.  Once we receive your petition, we will take your request under consideration.  We will contact you via email within two weeks of submittal to notify you if your petition has been approved or declined.  If approved, you may proceed to register for the ACES Convocation.
  • Registration closes Tuesday, April 25, 2017 - YOU MUST REGISTER!
  • Order academic attire - Herff Jones
  • Pick up and return your academic attire
  •

Eligibility

Convocation is not a certification of graduation, but rather a ceremony that celebrates your academic achievements.  All degree requirements must be satisfied before graduation and diploma conferral.  You are eligible to participate in Convocation if you are graduating in May 2017.

Registering to participate in a ceremony does not place your name on the degree list.  Students are responsible for announcing their candidacy for a degree by registering in the same term you will complete all requirements for graduation.
