December 2017 Convocation Ceremony

The College of ACES December 2017 Convocation Ceremony will be on Friday, December 22, 2017 from 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. at The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts in the Foellinger Great Hall.

Graduates will be recognized by name as they cross the stage to receive a diploma cover and have their photo taken by a professional photographer. Cap and gown must be worn.

From I-74: Take the Lincoln Avenue exit. Head south on Lincoln Avenue, crossing Bradley Avenue, University Avenue, Springfield Avenue, and Green Street. Turn right on Illinois Street (one block south of Green), which borders Krannert Center on its north side, or turn right on Oregon Street (three blocks south of Green), which borders Krannert Center to the south.

From I-57: If you're coming from the north, exit I-57 at I-74 heading east, then follow the directions from I-74. If you're coming from the south, exit I-57 at Curtis Road. Head east on Curtis to Neil Street and turn left (or north). Turn right (or east) on Windsor Road, and then left (or north) on Lincoln Avenue. Follow Lincoln north past Florida Avenue to Oregon Street. Turn left on Oregon, which borders Krannert Center on its south side. Alternatively from Lincoln Avenue you can turn left on Illinois Street, which borders the Center on the north side.

Parking:

Free parking will be available in the Krannert Center Parking Garage (connected to The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts).
 

Frequently Asked Questions About December Convocation

Am I required to participate in the graduation ceremony?

All graduates are invited and encouraged to participate, but attendance is not mandatory. 

Do I need to notify anyone that I intend to participate in the College of ACES Convocation Ceremony?

Yes, advanced registration for the College of ACES ceremony will be required by all graduates who wish to participate. An email will be sent out in mid-October with instructions for registering to participate, ordering your cap and gown, and information on the additional steps necessary to participate.

Are tickets required? Where do I get tickets?

Tickets are required for the ACES December 2017 Convocation ceremony. Tickets will be distributed approximately 8-10 days before the ceremony. Graduates will be notified when and where to pick-up their tickets.

Please note that our venues accommodate a limited number of guests and we must work within the limitations imposed by the building fire code. Therefore, tickets will be required for all guests, including babies, toddlers and small children, attending the ACES Convocation ceremony. Graduates and faculty participants will not need a ticket for the ceremony.

You must register to participate in the ceremony before you can receive your tickets.

The Dean of the College of ACES presides over the College of ACES Convocation ceremony. All graduates, regardless of degree, are individually recognized.

How long does the ACES Convocation Ceremony last?

The ACES Convocation ceremony should last approximately 90 minutes. Please make arrangements to attend the entire ceremony as those who leave the building will not be permitted to return.

Is the ACES Convocation Ceremony accessible to the disabled?

Yes. For attendees in need of assistive devices such as wheelchairs and walkers, it is suggested that these devices are brought to the ceremony from home or local leasing services.

Instructions for special needs:

Guests in wheelchairs, or for whom walking is difficult will be assisted by ushers to help direct you to designated seating areas.

Graduates with disabilities who require special assistance to fully participate in the ACES Convocation ceremony should email schmallr@illinois.edu, visit 115 ACES Library (Monday - Friday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm) or call 217-333-9729, prior to the ceremony to make necessary arrangements.

Is there a rehearsal?  How will I know what to do when I arrive at the ceremony?

There is no rehearsal for the ceremony. Faculty members will assist students in lining up for the processional.

Who is eligible to participate in the ACES December Convocation Ceremony?

Convocation is not a certification of graduation, but rather a ceremony that celebrates academic achievements. This ceremony is intended for December 2017 and August 2017 graduates who have not previously participated in an ACES Convocation ceremony.

Recipients of doctoral degrees must have deposited their dissertation in the Graduate College Thesis Office by the current year's deadline (December 8, 2017 by 5:00 p.m.) in order to participate in the ACES December 2017 Convocation ceremony.
